  • Tori Sheffer (She/her/hers)

I attended Alma College for undergrad and received a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. Following this, I attended Grand Valley State University and earned my Masters in Social Work. From there, I pursued the education and practice necessary to apply for my Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor credential (now pending).

I am passionate about therapy because of the impact it has left on my life and the life of those around me. My career began working in outreach counseling, TRULY meeting people where they were at (be that in their homes, at the public library, on a park bench, or even on a boat once). From there I began working in an outpatient office and eventually in a county jail, facilitating substance use treatment groups for the people incarcerated within that system. That led me to work with the Michigan Re-Entry Program, which took me back to my roots in a way, meeting individuals pursuing recovery post incarceration in the community in Kent County and helping them establish recovery foundations and healthy lives for themselves following lengthy prison and jail sentences.

I love being a therapist because it is never the same day twice. Every day I work with people on their life challenges, collaborating with them to address topics and issues that impact their happiness and working with them to sort through their potential options. Any given day, all we have to offer is to be mistake making human beings and I love working with people in the stickiness and discomfort of being human. In my free time I love spending time with my family and playing with my two black cats. I aspire to live an authentic and joy filled life and each day I work toward that goal.
