Support for Children—and the Families Who Love Them

When your child is struggling, it can affect everything—sleep, school, friendships, and the overall rhythm of your home.

You might be wondering:

  • Is this a phase, or something more?
  • Why are behaviors or emotions getting more intense?
  • How do I help if they can’t explain what’s wrong?

Child therapy offers a supportive space where kids can express themselves, build emotional skills, and feel more confident in their world.

What Is Child Therapy?

Child therapy is designed to help children (typically ages 3–12) understand and manage their emotions, behaviors, and experiences in a way that feels natural to them.

At Unity Counseling, therapy is often:

  • Child-friendly and engaging
  • Play-based or activity-based
  • Tailored to your child’s developmental level

This approach helps children express feelings they may not yet have words for.

When Might a Child Benefit from Therapy?

Children don’t always say “I’m struggling”—it often shows up in behavior, emotions, or changes in routine.

Child counseling may help if your child is experiencing:

  • Anxiety or frequent worries
  • Big emotions or meltdowns
  • Behavioral challenges
  • Difficulty at school
  • Social or friendship struggles
  • Life transitions or family changes

Even small changes can be meaningful—and support can make a difference.

What Child Therapy Can Help With

Child therapy can support a wide range of experiences, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Emotional regulation
  • Trauma or difficult experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Family transitions
  • Social development

With the right support, children can learn to:

  • Understand their feelings
  • Calm their bodies
  • Build confidence and resilience

A Collaborative Approach with Parents

You are an important part of your child’s support system.

Child therapy often includes:

  • Parent check-ins or guidance
  • Tools to support your child at home
  • Help understanding what your child may be experiencing

Progress tends to be strongest when both children and caregivers feel supported.

Helping Your Child Feel Safe and Understood

At its core, child therapy is about helping kids feel:

  • Safe in their body
  • Understood in their emotions
  • Confident in navigating their world

With support, children can build skills that carry into everyday life—at home, at school, and in relationships.
