Whether you’ve worked with a therapist before or this is your first time reaching out, you may have questions about Unity Counseling, Annie, and what our work together might look like. Below are answers to some of the most common questions to help you feel more informed and comfortable as you take this next step.
Hi, I'm Dr Annie Armstrong, a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping people of all ages navigate life’s challenges with curiosity, compassion, and connection. I specialize in working with children, teenagers, and adults who are experiencing anxiety, and I offer a safe, affirming space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
My approach is rooted in the belief that every person has strengths, even in the midst of struggle. I use a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and relational lens in my work, which means I see you as a whole person—not a problem to be fixed. I focus on understanding your unique perspective and building on what’s already working, while also offering support for the parts that feel hard.
The relationship between therapist and client is the foundation of effective therapy, and I take that seriously. I strive to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and deeply respectful—where you (or your child) can feel truly seen and heard. Whether we’re exploring emotions through play therapy with young children, working on collaborative problem solving with teens, or unpacking patterns in adult relationships, I aim to meet each person with empathy and openness.
I have specialized training and experience in play therapy, collaborative problem solving, and supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and families. I’m insight-oriented in my work, which means I help clients better understand themselves and their experiences so they can move forward with more clarity and confidence.
Whether you’re a parent seeking support for your child, a teen working through stress or identity questions, or an adult looking for more balance and peace in your life, I’m here to walk alongside you. You don’t have to do this alone.
Outside of work, I like spending time with my husband and 3 young children, writing silly songs, cross-stitching, painting, and learning about new, random things.
